Black History Month event
Cleveland City Hall February 5, 2011
The Underground Railroad Society and Peace in the Hood, Inc. in conjunction with a network of community organizations presented a a Salute to Black History Month at Cleveland City Hall.
Youngsters from Peace in the Hood performed a dance.
Then the Peace in the Hood children performed a drum call.
This was followed by William Marshall leading the crowd in singing 'Lift Every Voice and Sing', known as 'The Black National Anthem.' The song was written as a poem by James Weldon Johnson and set to music by his brother John Rosamond Johnson in 1900.
Then Khalil A. Rashid spoke about the Pan African and African American Flags.
Amir Khalid A. Samad of Peace in the Hood told the young people that it's important not to be scared to be ourselves and not to imitate others whether it is Justin Beiber, Jay-Z, Little Wayne or Beyonce. Know yourself and accept yourself.

Next Amir Khalid A. Samad and Sister Michelle led a Libation ceremony honoring those who have made contributions and passed on.
The young people from Peace in the Hood in Cleveland performed an African Folk Dance called Funga.
Young men from Lorain UMADAOP spoke about the Red, Black and Green of the flag.
