It's amazing what we can do when we work together! On July 12, 2018, 30 Young Leadership Division (YLD) volunteers came together with volunteers of all ages in the African American community to help landscape, plant flowers, and clean up the Hebrew and Association of African American Cultural Gardens at the most recent YLDay of Caring. Through this special event - one of the first collaborative efforts between the different Cleveland Cultural Gardens - they learned more about the gardens' history and had a chance to engage in a meaningful dialogue.
ABOUT THE HEBREW CULTURAL GARDEN (HCG): Dedicated in 1926, the Hebrew Cultural Garden is one of 30 gardens that make up the Cleveland Cultural Gardens in Rockefeller Park. The garden is managed by the Federation's Community Relations Committee (CRC) and the HCG committee, and maintained through funding from a Federation endowment fund.
ABOUT THE AFRICAN AMERICAN CULTURAL GARDEN: Dedicated in 1977, the African American Cultural Garden's purpose is to develop and preserve the African American Cultural Gardens, and to promote and encourage education and interest in African American culture by perpetuating a spirit of friendship and unity among people of all diverse cultures.
Afterwards, the volunteers cooled off and enjoyed drinks together at ABC the Tavern Uptown. Special thanks to Alyssa Rothstein and Aaron Saltzman, YLDay of Caring Co-Chairs, and Josh Acks, Ben Becker, Samantha Doris, Tali Merdler, Julie Schneider, and Rosalynne Sommer, YLDay of Caring Committee.
