Rosa Lee plays and explains The Guzheng aka Chinese Zither
Lunar New Year Celebration Asia Plaza - 30th and Payne, Cleveland February 1 and 2, 2025
There was a two-day celebration of Lunar New Year 2025 - the Year of the Wood Snake - at Asia Plaza. There were performances, lion dances, information booths, vendors, community resources, photo opps and, of course, food!
Each day, the main stage had a variety of performances such as Rosa Lee performing on the Guzheng (Chinese zither).
Rosa Lee and Guzheng
Rosa Lee has been playing the Chinese zither - the guzheng - since she was a little girl. In this video she explained the instrument including the sounds it makes by pressing or releasing, tuning, the 21 strings and so on. Hundreds of people were walking by so it's a little noisy.
Rosa invited two of her students to perform what they had learned.

Young Student of Rosa Lee
MC Wayne Wong introduced her and then Rosa introduced a young student who performed what she has been learning.
Rosa told an interesting (and funny) story about accents and why there are different styles of music in the north and south. She then performed her last piece on the guzheng. Watch.
Whether you say Gong hei faat choy (Cantonese) or xin nian kuai le (Mandarin) or something else, we wish you a Happy Lunar New Year.
