Slovenian Independence and Unity Day
Consul General Alenka Jerak Event Oswald Building 1100 Superior Ave. Cleveland December 7, 2023
Independence and Unity Day (Slovene: Dan samostojnosti in enotnosti) is a Slovenian national holiday that occurs on every December 26 to commemorate the official proclamation of the Slovenian independence referendum on December 26, 1990. The referendum took place on December 23 that year and 95% of the voters favored the establishment of independent and sovereign nation. Independence and Unity Day is not to be confused with Slovenia's Statehood Day, which is celebrated each year on June 25, in honor of the declaration of Slovenian independence from Yugoslavia in 1991.
